Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile Dysfunction has a significant impact.
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is when a Penis can’t become erect or maintain an erection (remain hard enough for penetrative sex). Stress and anxiety are common triggers for occasional ED for every man. Very few men will not have moments of ED. Anxiety with a new partner can be an isolated event, for example. But if it’s happening regularly, it may indicate an underlying health problem.

What causes ED?
Mechanisms behind Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
ED is generally divided into two main categories:
Physical Causes: These involve issues with the body's systems, such as blood vessels, nerves, or hormones. These are the most common causes, especially in older men.
Psychological Causes: These involve mental health, stress, anxiety, or relationship issues. These are often the primary cause in younger men but can contribute to ED at any age.
PREMATURE EJACULATION
Premature ejaculation (PE) occurs when a Penis releases semen earlier than desired, usually defined as less than a minute of activity. PE can be a problem if regularly interrupting sex
ANXIETY
A vicious cycle, experiencing ED once, leads to anxiety about subsequent sexual encounters. This anxiety then triggers the "fight-or-flight" response, causing ED again, which reinforces the initial fear.
PEYRONIE'S
Peyronie's disease is a condition caused by fibrous scar tissue (called a plaque) inside the Penis. This plaque forms within the tunica albuginea (elastic tissue that surrounds the erectile cylinders).
Peyronie’s Disease (PD)
“Peh-roan-ease”
Peyronie’s Disease, “Peh-roan-ease”, occurs when scar tissue develops inside the Penis, causing it to bend or curve unusually. A slight to moderate curve is natural. But the scar/curve associated with Peyronie’s is usually profound.
Peyronie’s can result from a Penis injury (such as an injury during sex) or trauma that causes scar tissue, called a plaque, to build up. Classically, a plaque occurs on top of the Penis but can develop anywhere. Sometimes, however, there is no reason.
One of the main difficulties is the bend can make it challenging to have penetrative sex. Usually, the pain from the injury will subside, but the curve is permanent. Massage therapies and surgery can help. A slight curve may not require treatment.
- Peyronie’s Symptoms
- Hard lumps or tissue inside the Penis
- Pain or discomfort with an erection
- Penis shrinkage or shortening
- Sharp bend or curve of the Penis (usually upwards)

Age increases ED prevalence
The percentage of men who experience erectile dysfunction (ED) varies significantly depending on their age, but it is a common condition.
| Age | Prevalence (Range) | Key Findings |
|---|---|---|
| Under 40 | 12% to 26% | Though lower, ED is still a significant issue in younger men, often linked to psychological or lifestyle factors. |
| 40 to 49 | ~ 20% to $25% | The risk starts to increase noticeably in this decade. |
| 40 to 70 | 50% | Many sources state that about half of all men between the ages of 40 and 70 experience ED to some degree. |
